Mainly one leak after another... have spent in repairs to date about $2600 of my hard earned dollars. Usually 3-4 repairs a year, all related to leaks. Just 8 weeks ago I spent $575 on three leaks on the condenser unit.

I spent a lot of money for an AC unit that never worked right from the start. Did I say my first repair/charge came just 7 weeks after it was installed? I wouldn't recommend this unit to anyone. Spend a little more and get a good unit. Don't be stuck in the position I'm now in this close to retiring. "What a Payne, do not buy." Installed for my mom who was 80 years old at the time. Replaced a split unit with a 3.5 Ton package unit that used R22. Total cost was $3800.00. The warranty covered it for 5 years. 1 month out of warranty, the variable blower burned out. 2 months later the compressor motor failed. compressor + R22 Freon = $1100.00. Unit ran for another 2 months, then developed a leak in the cooling core. Had a repair tech come out to re-fill it with R22, the cooling coil was leaking, unable to repair. Estimated cost of cooling coil $1800.00 plus labor & R22 Freon. Will never again buy a Payne, Bryant, or Carrier, they are all built the same.

Sears came to inspect and I was told it was incorrectly installed. Gave me a discount for an extended re-Compressor failed after 6 and one-half years. Last unit we had "Died 4 months out of warranty" I've had my Payne since May 19, 2009. It died Sept 2, 2014, a few monthsIt ran great up to now.
