I don't care what anyone thinks I should do if you get electrocuted that's called Darwin theory. This was a long time ago when you could buy R-22 without a license. It's not that difficult but you should do research and learn what your doing. Again if you are stupid enough not to turn off the power before working on your AC unit then you deserve to be electrocuted. All that junk the AC guy was talking about how much % is silver LOL. When you go to solder stuff together your not shooting a flame down the tube. Like I said you better learn what you need to do before attempting it. Understand which electrical lines to hook up, and if it was a burnout you need to flush the system. Now days I don't even bother with any of that because I can get a 16 Seer 4 ton heat pump for $3200 packaged system.

I have a local source on duct work and stand for $200 plus smiley crane service another $150. My rental houses all get new units when they have an issue. I have met so many crooked AC dealers here my mother got taken from a guy told her that if she didn't purchase their service contract her manufacture warranty would be voided. I called the manufacture they said different and that the dealer was wrong to try and sell that contract. I had no idea she even bought a new AC they got her for $7000 for a 15 seer unit. No AC sales guy can show me proof of a ROI with a savings on a power bill when they are getting $10k for these units it takes 20 years to pay back and the warranty runs out after 10 years. Internet Sales Void Warranty If a web vendor claims any warranty from manufacturer they are committing fraud. When an HVAC contractor purchases an HVAC system, his HVAC license number is assigned to the unit via a serial number. This number is unique to the manufacturer as well as the piece of equipment being purchased. Trying to do this yourself is not a good idea. You risk the health of your structure, damage to the structure, injury to yourself, injury or health concerns to the occupants of the structure. This is another reason that "IF" you are purchasing a home you should have the HVAC system(s) inspected by a licensed HVAC contractor. If you sell a home or lease a home with potential health related concerns because you replaced a system on your own and you are unlicensed - you open yourself up to a potential lawsuit.

I just ran a call maybe a week ago in which the house was built in 2000, but the outside unit was a 24 year old piece of equipment. Through talking with the current home owner I learned that the home was a foreclosure. A home is the most expensive asset you will own in your lifetime, DO NOT compound this by making foolish mistakes. There is no reason good enough to risk everything you have. 1 posts, read 7,820 times
