For that reason alone, I am taking it back to the store because it is too loud for the amount of air it cools. But I also was dismayed to find that both side panels would not fit in my window. My window frame is 23 inches, but I guess my window itself is only 21 inches, so I couldn't use both panels if I wanted the AC to fit in the window. And one of the screws would not tighten; it just kept spinning in the hole. So now there are only three screws holding the unit in place, which doesn't make it as secure as I would like, but there is also a gap along the top of the unit where the top bar does not meet the top of the unit, so air and bugs and whatever else come in. And I can't drill holes in the window frame or window ledge because I rent my apartment. All in all, not a good purchase. It also had very unsatisfactory directional air-flow control.

The Frigidaire 5,000 BTU FFRA0511R1 has more than enough cooling capacity. I only run the blower at high speed to initially bring the room to the desired temperature, then run it at low speed to maintain the level of comfort I require. The air-flow directional control is exceptionally easy to adjust and it has a full range to allow directing the air from left to right. I couldn't ask for a better air conditioner. I did not feel like pulling out the chassis and working in hot weather. I put this in, put foam insulation around the gaps, and turned it on. I cannot believe it is only 5000 BTU. It is keeping a large bedroom comfortable. The fan is noisy, (it is not a deep unit so the fan mechanism is right up front) but the compressor is almost silent. No frills - manual not digital controls. It is sometimes sold for $119.

We cannot turn it on high cool or turn the temp all the way cold because it freezes us out!
