No problem - check out our latest commercials right here.+Department ManagerWith appropriate involvement of department advisor (and other department staff) ensure that: minimal labor needs of department are met, jobs are necessary/productive, qualified students are hired and given proper training, services and hours of the department meet campus needs, that workers and staff are informed of and follow work program and department guidelines; provide leadership and mediation with problem resolution and in disciplinary matters; assure that weekly time cards are totaled and submitted by deadline; see that workers are properly scheduled; monitor over/under time and see that workers are rescheduled as necessary; see that workers performance is evaluated and discussed with them; ensure that workers and staff are kept informed of department meetings, policy and procedure changes and other relevant work program information; meet regularly with department advisor and staff to gain input from them and provide information to them;
with the input and approval of the department advisor and staff select assistant managers and designate one to serve as designated replacement (in managers absence). Be a member of and attend Work Committee meetings; represent department interests and together with other work committee members, ensure that the over-all interests and needs of the campus community are met; actively participate in establishing and accomplishing work committee goals and objectives; participate in the selection of next years department manager and general managers. QUALIFICATIONS:Prefer previous experience and/or interest in carpentry and paint/lock work. +HVAC/Mechanical WorkerThe HVAC/mechanical worker will be performing tasks such as repair, preventive maintenance, and assist in some installation of equipment primarily related to but not limited to heating, air conditioning, and ventilation. Specific tasks will include changing air filters, oiling and/or greasing motors, replacing motors, replacing belts, cleaning condenser and evaporator coils.
There will be other tasks to complete such as removal of old existing HVAC equipment, cleaning and painting of equipment, labeling, tagging, and organizing campus equipment rooms. QUALIFICATIONS:Prefer interest and/or experience in HVAC, electrical and mechanical maintenance. The position requires lifting, climbing, working outside and inside. +Grounds WorkerCare/maintenance of campus grounds including: mowing, trimming, planting, policing for litter, clearing snow/ice from roadways, parking lots, sidewalks and entry ways; collecting and disposing of campus trash and recycling materials; cleaning/maintenance of shop and equipment; may assist with mechanical repairs; moving furniture, supplies and equipment; “set-up and tear-down” for campus events; Responsible for the care and upkeep of athletic fields (i.e. football, baseball, soccer, softball.) and the preparation, “lining”, and dragging of the fields for games; andother general maintenance duties as assigned. Prefer knowledge of the care and “set-up” of athletic fields and experience with appropriate equipment. +Department Advisor (faculty/staff, part-time)The student-managed work program has a two-fold purpose: to help keep college operational costs as low as possible and to provide an extra dimension of community within which students have the opportunity to contribute and learn. In order for the program to be successful, students must be “empowered”. They must be assisted with acquiring the knowledge and skill necessary to do the work: be held accountable to appropriate standards of work and be given recognition for their work. The role of the Campus Maintenance Department Advisor is primarily that of an “enabler” in that he/she must be a teacher, trainer, coach and mentor for the student manager. However, he/she must also at times be a supervisor assuring that the manager is performing his/her duties and that the necessary work of the department is being accomplished.
Participate in the selection of the manager; Assure that the manager is trained regarding the services, organization, functioning and needs of the department; Provide guidance on management practices and procedures; Keep informed of department needs and issues and see that the manager is properly addressing them; Meet regularly (daily if necessary, but at least weekly) with the manager to provide support regarding department issues; Set appropriate standards and hold the manager accountable; Assure that the work warning and the manager is implementing other department and work program guidelines; Keep the general managers and work program advisor informed of any significant problems or issues; Evaluate the performance of the manager: Consider and advocate ways/means of improving the work program in the department and campus wide; Attend Work Committee meetings whenever possible; Be an advocate for the work program. Assure that student management and workers are used to the maximum extent feasible in the departments operation.
