Recharging the system requires special equipment that most people don’t own. It’s best to have a ASE certified technician make any repairs. A drive belt runs the air conditioning compressor and keeps the refrigerant circulating in the system.  If the belt is cracked or worn it might start slipping reducing the cooling capacity of your A/C.  If the belt breaks the A/C will stop working.  You should inspect the belt on a regular basis. 

Next time you have your vehicle in the shop ask the technician to show you where the belt is located and what to look for. You vehicle also has a device called a condenser that is located in front of the radiator.  Refrigerant runs through the condenser and air flows across thin fins dissipating the heat from the refrigerant.  Sometimes the fins can become clogged causing loss of cooling and even engine overheating.  Make sure the fins remain clean and in good condition. The compressor is the core of your vehicle A/C.  It pumps refrigerant and lubricant throughout the system.  Common indicators of compressor problems are: not cooling, squealing sounds from the compressor clutch (pulley assembly), and the A/C belt not turning or slipping. Last but not least is the evaporator.  This unit is under the dash inside the car and absorbs heat and moisture from inside the car thus returning the air through the vents at a much cooler and dryer state.  The moisture removed from the air is drained off under the vehicle.
