ruud central ac units

#32 of 67 brands of central air conditioners Read more about RUUD central air conditioners Location: Long Beach, MS I just took the time to read all these reviews and noticed nearly all seem due to poor installation and horrible pricing on the part of whatever HVAC company these people are using. Rheem isn't the problem. I own 2 Ruuds, both high efficiency. One was installed in 2012, the other in 2015. I've spent well over $1,000 the past few years keeping these things running. Control board, evaporator coil,One still periodically stops cooling. I see many other reviewers had the same issues as I do. I called customer service and they basically threw my installer under the bus. I understand that Ruud is the same as Rheem. I don't ever plan on getting either again. Compressor is junk inside 9 years. Buy a different brand. "Buy a Trane or Lennox" Had the unit for 8 years. Haven't had a year that it didn't need to be

I'm a contractor that has been installing A/C systems for over 30 years. The biggest problem I run into on problem systems is improperly installed equipment, not manufacturer issues. 90% of all problems stemImproper brazing techniques (not using nitrogen while brazing ) is a major biggie. to manufacturer are pretty much the same.

The biggest difference is the quality of workmanship and who installs the equipment, more so than theI read through the complaints and most cases are workmanship issues, not bad equipment. In my experience I have found the manufacturers stand behind their equipment. What a manufacturer can't do is warranty a poor installation for workmanship. "You can't fix stupid" on the installation side. My recommendation is you pay for what you get. There are no "apples for apples" in my business. If it's cheaper ask yourself a question, what are you not getting that the other quotes areAs in any industry, you pay for quality and experience. Consider this when purchasing not only the product but the service that has to accompany it as well. "Problems with Ruud A/C" My unit is only 2 years old. I also have those defective coils which I understand are no longer being used due to the widespread problems. Because the copper coils leak, I spent $400 to have all the Freon

replaced, plus $700 to have the replacement (aluminum) coil installed. Only the coil was covered by warranty. I think this should be handled like an auto recall situation. Ruud should pay for the new coils regardless of the warranty situation, plus the cost of installation andIs a class action suit applicable? I have had this unit for fifteen years and have never had a serviceI owned a Rheem for eighteen years with one call made in the last year of its life. Now they tell me I have to replace the system at an additional cost of $5000. March 2012 - Purchased equipment, $ 4,000. April 2014 - Isolation test $425, replaced the evaporator coil, $799. December 2015 - Replaced TXV valve, pump down and recharge, $799. Total of $2,023 in repairs = 57% of original cost spent in less than 3 years! I checked with Consumer's Report and Rudd/Rheem were shown as the one with the least repair incidents, then Trane. I went to a website to see reviews and each manufacturer had more negatives than positive. I would like to know from those who have had these brands within the past five years what their experience has been.

The only thing of importance, is the hvac professional you choose to use. Alot of manufacturer's pieces are built relatively the same, and will last about the same amount of time. The thing that matters most is what you can not compare between companies, and that is the installation. Purchasing a system is not like purchasing a car, where no matter where you buy it, they are all the same. Each installation is different, and usually what you are paying for is the level of expertise, and quality of the installation, the company who will actual give you the warranty, and the comfort that you will receive. Manufacturers warranties disappear every day. They always have a loophole where they can get out of paying, but your local dealer wants to keep you happy for future work, and to protect his reputation in the communiy. Look up 4 year old Nordyne and Goodman warranty problems. Choose the HVAC professional first. It will cost you the least in the long run. I have had to totally redo plenty of installations that were just performed because of an uncomfortable customer, and a system that keeps breaking down.

The equipment is only as good as it's installation, and over 70% are not installed correctly. Answered 5 years ago Hi Meowcats,Angie's List doesn't offer ratings on products, but our members do rate the service companies that work on them. You might check with at least three highly rated HVAC companies who have no direct affiliation with a specific vendor for their unbiased opionion on which brands have the most or least repair incidents.Paul from Angie's List by Paul from Angie's List Almost all AC units use the same parts on the insides. They almost all use the same heat exchanger engineering. That being siad just go with the one with the better warranty. You should be more concerned about the installation quality. This is what makes or breaks the system.Get a contractor who uses the "Energy Star Quality Installation Guidelines."This will include sizing the system correctly, a look at and replace or repair of the duct system, post installation testing, etc.Use the link provided below to help you with this.

I have a Trane which was installed in 2008. I have had nothing but trouble with it. The cooling coils have been replaced three times. IT made it about three years this last time and tonight it is not cooling again and the outside unit is making a grinding sound. I have HAD it with this system - the repairs each time are in excess of $400. I will be getting a new systme this time and it WON'T BE A TRANE!!!!! I strongly suggest no one purchase a Ruud. I had one installed in 2010. When it arrived the outside coil had a hole. No problem sometimes that happens. I said to myself. My installer fixed it and off we went. In the four years I have had it the unit I have replaced:inside coilcompressoroutside fanevaporator motor. If you are thinking it is my installer... NO. I thought the same and had 3 other installer take a look. At no time did any of the installers say it was an installation or technician issue. The unit is horrible!!!! So after 4 years I have paid $3,000 in service calls and Freon.
