window ac unit tripping breaker

Home Guides Home Home Improvement Sustainability Wattage vs. Surge Wattage for a Window Air Conditioner Email Reddit Surge wattage may cause nuisance tripping of circuit breakers. You may be wondering what the difference is between wattage (also called running or rated wattage) and surge wattage (also called start-up wattage). Running wattage represents the power a motor-driven appliance uses once it reaches normal operating speed. Surge wattage represents the power the appliance consumes as its motor starts and gets up to two-thirds of its operating speed. Surge Wattage Depending on the operating efficiency and the power factor of your air conditioner's hermetic motor-compressor unit, the surge wattage could be as little as 1.04 to 2.0 times its running wattage. In most cases the surge wattage will not be a problem for you, but if you have an older home where the branch circuits are already operating at their maximum safe capacity, the additional surge wattage may cause sporadic tripping of a circuit breaker.
Typical Surge Wattages A 10,000 BTU Unit has surge wattage of 1800 watts and a running wattage of 1200 watts. A 12,000 BTU unit has surge wattage of 3950 watts and a running wattage of 3250 watts. /Getty Images Suggest a Correction How to Use Crystal Candlestick Holders to ... Yes () No ()  Report Yes () No () very nice a/c, cools large room with tall ceiling, (20x25x10), remote needs and should have a backlight, so you could see what your doing when lights are off. Yes () No (5)  Report Yes () No (5) Needed a unit for the bedroom of 200 Sq Ft but for the price difference went with this more powerful unit figuring it would not have to work so hard to do the job. This is not only cooling the bedroom but with a floor fan in the doorway, it's also cooling the rest of the second floor of over 400 sq ft. Great features and the remote control is a real plus, great that you can set it to read the temperature from where the remote is so that the whole room gets to the set number before it shuts down. Just don't let the remote fall under the covers with you or place it where the sun will heat it up and run the AC more than needed. Some have said it is loud, but we don't find it any louder than other window units. And of couse, some might have it set for high fan speed when the low setting would work for them and be quieter at the same time.
Very glad we bought this AC. Also happy that Walmart offers a three year warranty extension for a very low price, now we have four years peace of mind with it. I usually turn it on after work, set to 77, with eco mode and temp sensor remote on and 15 minutes later everything is nice and cool running only when needed. lennox air conditioner parts columbus ohioMost of the features I don't use except the eco mode and remote sensor. hissing sound coming from ac unitThe 24hr timer is not what I thought it would be. lg mini split ac error codesYou can't set it to come at specific times like a lamp timer. Instead you have to set it to turn on/off in so many hours.
If it's 8pm and you want it to turn at 2pm the next day you need to set the timer for 18hrs. The biggest thing I don't like is the auger style vent deflectors. I don't feel they deflect air as good as the vents like cars have. The noise level is average. I've never come across one that was super quiet but using the eco mode does cut down on the time the fan and compressor run. If you need a cheap ac with some bonus features I think it would be hard to beat this one and it's even better if you can get 97 cent shipping. I would buy this one again if I needed another. Yes () No (1)  Report Yes () No (1) Verified purchaser I purchased this 8,000 BTU Air Conditioner for my husband. He had purchased a 12,000 BTU Unit for a hurricane. We only use the 110 volt window air condtioners when we have a hurricane or a storm, or when the electricity is out for a long period of time. My husband can cool off a large bedroom and another small room with the unit using a generator. We returned the 12,000 BTU, because he wanted a unit that would not take two people to insert into the window and he could handle it by himself.
This air contioner had all of the bells and whistles so to speak. Timer, remote and temperature control speeds, etc., and it only weighs about 50 pounds. It actually fit into a very small bathroom window. It really does cool down about 350 square ft. of living area. I do reccommend this product to anyone. We haven't had it very long to tell you how it will hold up over time. I figured if it last a couple of years, I have gotten my money's worth. I ordered it online on a Thursday, and it was delivered to our local store by Saturday for free. Way to Go Wal-Mart! Yes () No (6)  Report Yes () No (6) This is a pretty good product, especially for the money. Here is my quick rundown: Pros: -Seems powerful for an 8000 BTU AC -Remote with thermometer is a nice touch -Easy to put together -All around, does a pretty good job Cons: -The beep whenever you press any button is pretty loud (some of the other reviewers may have taken this con a little bit too far, but yes, it's loud)
-The AC itself is pretty loud (I have not run decibel tests, but with the fan on anything but low, it's loud) -I wish it had a vent that would open to let in air from the outside (this is especially helpful for top-floor apartments that get hot even when it's cold outside) Final word: Despite a few fairly minor annoyances, this is a solid product. If you have a small space (like a bedroom) that would be OK with a 5000-6000 BTU AC, it might be worth downgrading for the quieter operation. Yes () No (2)  Report Yes () No (2) Verified purchaser I was predjudiced in my purchase, because I had purchased two similiar smaller units four years ago to cool two bedrooms in Maine when the temperature reached the eighties. Much to my surprise after installing two circulating fans in the inside walls, I was able to cool a 1000 sq. ft. building with ease using the energy saver feature. This unit was purchased to cool a poorly insulated Florida room of 350 sq ft. Again, using the energy saver feature, and this time with a temperature sensing remote I am able the easily keep the temperature at 73 deg. and humidity at 50% when the outside temp is in the low to mid eighties.
I fully expect the unit to work easily as well this summer. The noise level is low, and the air flow adjustments allow good circulation. I would highly recommend the Frigidaire product. It is more expensive than competitors, but has in my opinion outstanding value. Yes (4) No (0)  Report Yes (4) No (0) Verified purchaser I'm located in Louisiana and it's been one alarmingly hot summer. I purchased this air conditioner to replace a horrible Haier that I was given several years ago. (I'll never purchase anything that says Haier after my experience with that unit!) I've had it for about 2 weeks and it has exceeded my expectations. I installed it in my bedroom to supplement the large through-the-wall Friedrich in my living room. This bedroom door is left open most of the day and night. This room also has the afternoon sun beating down on the window where the AC is installed and the AC has no trouble keeping the room suitably icy. I didn't even know it had a "clean air" feature until I got it home and installed it.
I plan to purchase a second identical unit to install in my daughter's bedroom. I like it that much. Yes () No ()  Report Yes () No () THIS IS A VERY NICE A/C FROM WALMART!!
