My unit will blow heat when I turn on the heating element, but then blow cool air. It goes back and forth from blowing heat to blowing cool. The room is 600 sq.ft. Should I go with an 18000btu or a 12000btu a/c? My room is 16 x 20 ft. It has a stair well going down away from the unit. Most people do not realize that their central unit has electric strips to produce heat when the heat pump cannot extract heat from very cold and dry air. My solution to this was to purchase an oil filled radiator type heater like this DeLonghi TRD0715T Safeheat 1500W Portable Oil-Filled Radiator with Vertical Thermal Tunnels (this one is exceptional and I have bought about 4 for myself, friends and work) which I only have to use when the temps are very low. The Frigidaire does an exceptional job of cooling my 300+ Sq Ft sunroom and also does a great job heating it until the temps drop below 40 and then I just place the Delonghi about 2 feet in front of it and let it blow the hot air around the room, works perfectly.BOTTOM LINE: This is a great item as long as you understand it is a exceptional AC unit and a great heater until it gets below 40ish degrees. It was no trouble to mount and wire. It cranked right up with no problems. works very well as supplementary heat, but I haven't got my elect. bill yet and haven't had the chance to use it for A/C, so my opinion now is premature.
