About five years ago a plumber friend asked Bill to devise something that he could use to safely get an air conditioner onto the roof. The Mighty Lift was the device Bill came up with, although he has made several modifications since that first prototype. The Mighty Lift is a safer way for builders and tradespeople to transport heavy loads such as air conditioners or solar panels up onto a roof.

It�s particularly designed for smaller scale domestic construction sites. Mighty Lift consists of a ladder structure, which also doubles as the guide rails for the trolley, and a manually operated winch. It is suitable for most 1 and 2 storey buildings.Because Mighty Lift is both a lifting device and a rated ladder, you can use it to climb up onto the roof, then winch the load up after you. No need for a separate ladder.Mighty Lift is a portable and lightweight lifting device to get air conditioners, solar units, or other heavy or bulky items (up to 120 kgs) up or down from the roof of a single or double story building. The device replaces a lift, pulley and rope system, or the even less desirable method of hoisting items onto the worker�s shoulders whilst standing on a ladder. The Mighy Lift comprises 7 main components which fit together in different configurations depending on the height and shape of the roof. These components can be stacked on top of each other for transportation either on a roof rack or in a trailer.

The main components are four straight ladder sections of varying length, 2 elbow sections which create the angle onto the roof, and the trolley which is winched up and down the ladder.There are two legs which stabilise the ladder on the ground. They have flexible feet and you can adjust the angle to give you maximum stability. They fit either of the longest straight sections of ladder.On the roof section there are four legs; two on the elbows and two on the top section. These are also flexible so you can adjust the angles to the pitch of the roof. These legs have straps which thread through the feet. You then screw the straps onto the roof line (for a corrugated iron roof) or strap them round the batten if it�s a tile roof (just remove a couple of tiles.)The winch is operated from above so the operator is never underneath the load. It takes about 1 minute to haul a load onto a single storey roof.There are two brakes, one on the winch and another on the trolley itself. The load has to be physically wound down the ladder.
